Cheryl Osler is a licensed Mental Health Counselor, registered nurse, and board-certified Advanced Holistic Nurse Practitioner (AHN-BC) with master's degrees as a clinical nurse specialist in community mental health, public health, and studies in law. Additionally, she has a doctorate in educational leadership. Cheryl has been a nurse since 1988, gaining extensive clinical experience across various healthcare specialties, including psychiatric, obstetrics, medical/surgical, oncology, and geriatric nursing.
In her 21 years of direct patient care, Cheryl has held leadership positions and taught within nursing and psychology programs. Cheryl has also owned a counseling practice for over 13 years. She is an Employee Assistance Program therapist and a trained First Responder Treatment Provider (FRTP), specializing in providing mental health support and treatment to first responders and their families, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and healthcare providers. FRTPs are trained to understand the unique challenges and stressors faced by first responders, including the impact of trauma, stress, and other mental health issues related to their profession. Her treatment specialties include biofeedback, EMDR, critical incident stress management, disaster response, and cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety, trauma, PTSD, addiction disorders, and depression, serving children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
Cheryl has been a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant since 2005, demonstrating her expertise in researching, analyzing, and thoroughly examining medical records. Recently, she completed a master's degree in public health at the University of Washington, where her research focused on the adolescent mental health crisis, health practitioner stress and burnout, workplace violence, and incivility/lateral violence in nursing.
Cheryl actively serves on various boards, including the Legislative and Health Policy Council of the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA), the Board of Directors for the Inland Empire Nurses Association (IENA), the Program Approval Panel for the Washington State Board of Nursing, the Planning Committee for the National League for Nursing, and the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board at MultiCare. She has previously served on the Board of Commissioners for the Accreditation Commission for Education, the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, and the Greater Inland Northwest American Red Cross. Furthermore, Cheryl is a certified Disaster Mental Health Counselor and a youth disaster preparedness educator for the American Red Cross.
